William & Mary Rowing Camp 2025

ABOUT THE CAMP
The William & Mary Rowing Camp is designed for high school rowers and coxswains (ages 13-18), both boys and girls. The camp is run by the William & Mary coaching staff, providing high-quality instruction to help athletes develop their skills. Space is limited to 20 male and 20 female athletes, and registration will close on May 1st or once capacity is reached, so be sure to sign up early!
Cost: $975
The camp will run from Tuesday, June 24th (starting in the morning) to Friday, June 27th (ending in the afternoon). Parents and family members are invited to attend the end-of-camp races!
Athletes will row out of the William & Mary Rowing Boathouse at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Land training will take place on campus at the W&M Student Recreation Center.
Camp Focus:
W&M offers a high-performance summer rowing experience. Rowers will train twice daily with the William & Mary coaches and team members. The camp emphasizes athlete development in several key areas:
In-depth rowing technique in both sweep and sculling shells
Advanced land-training principles and practices
Video analysis to refine technique
Presentations on rowing biomechanics and other topics
Significant improvement in ergometer technique and training practices
Strong focus on building teamwork in the boat
Each athlete’s development is a priority for our coaching staff, regardless of their age, size, current abilities, or potential.
In addition to focusing on rowing technique and conditioning, campers will experience life at the College of William & Mary, the second-oldest college in the United States. Campers will stay in William & Mary dorms (2 per room) and enjoy meals in the College’s dining halls.

Scavenger hunt in Colonial Williamsburg
Flying to Camp?
For campers flying in, campus is about one hour from Richmond and Norfolk airports, and 30 minutes from Newport News International Airport. Amtrak service is also available within walking distance of campus.

Meet Our Head Coach: Rebecca Newman
Program Director & Varsity Coach for William & Mary Rowing
Rebecca Newman is the Program Director and Head Coach of the College of William & Mary's Rowing Team, a position she has held since the fall of 2022. Prior to her return to Virginia, she served as Program Director at Twin Cities Youth Rowing Club, where she was head coach for both the varsity girls' and boys' teams. Under her leadership, the program flourished, expanding to 150 across 15 schools and establishing a successful middle school program. Her teams consistently excelled, achieving repeat placements at the Head of the Charles and qualifying for the USRowing Youth National Championships while also attracting interest from top universities.
Coach Newman is passionate about helping each rower achieve their individual goals, recognizing that personal growth is essential for the overall success of the team. She believes in the importance of fostering a strong team dynamic, where collaboration and support among teammates elevate everyone’s performance.
Residing in Williamsburg, VA, with her husband Fred, Coach Newman is a former lightweight rower from Trinity University. Her coaching experience includes notable roles such as the first head coach at Walt Whitman High School, junior women's coach for Norwalk, and Head Coach & Director of Rowing for Williamsburg Boat Club.
As a USRowing Certified Level 3 coach, Rebecca is dedicated to providing her athletes with high-quality training and guidance.
The team has achieved great success under Coach Rebecca’s lead, including the honor of medals at both SIRA & Dad Vails championship regattas.

Mandatory Camp Forms
• To complete your camp registration, follow the registration steps to pay through Regatta Central
• Upon receiving your rowing camp registration, we will send an email to verify your spot at camp within approximately 3 business days.
• An orientation packet will be sent out one month before camp begins, which will include a camp schedule and much more information.
• Please check your e-mail regularly. All camp information will be sent via the e-mail address used when registering for camp. Please check your spam folder for our e-mails.
